I wanted to make a Willy Wonka cake because a customer had been to the bakery enquiring about a birthday cake and that her child was into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but didn't know where to start with a design so I did a couple of drawings with different ideas and prices, she picked them up and then nothing... didn't hear from her again. So that left me with the need to make a Willy Wonka cake so I thought it would look great in the bakery window.
Its a two tier fake covered in green fondant with a chocolate fountain, well it would be chocolate if it was a real cake but I didn't think the bakery would be to chuffed to have melted chocolate all over the cabinet so I took piece of white and brown fondant and rolled them in to skinny sausage shapes then stuck it to the cake and painted over it with brown colouring. The decorations are a mixture of pick and mix sweets, fondant lollies and Umpa Lumpa's. The bit I really like is the Golden Ticket I was super pleased with how that turned out. I printed out an image of a golden ticket to the size I wanted the ticket to be, then cut out each of the letters. I thought the easiest way to do the ticket is to cut out a piece of black fondant to the size required then cover with a thin layer of trex this both keeps the letters in place and helps stick the gold lustre to the fondant, then carefully remove each letter to end up with a golden ticket. YEAH!
The Rose Birthday cake was a copy of a cake I had made in one of my sugar craft classes, I've been meaning to redo this cake for a while and I thought it would look quite nice in the window plus its not to expensive to make so would be great for people with a budget.
